Oh What Fun!

12. 02. 11

It’s that merry time of year when the Corona del Mar community comes together for its annual Christmas Walk. And what better way to get into the holiday spirit than by joining in on the festivities and strolling through your favorite coastal town?

And seeing as how we’ve been in this very spot for over 25 years; we know a thing or two about celebrating Christmas on the coast. In fact, we’ve decked our halls with some lovely coastal inspired finds that are sure to bring you and yours plenty of joy. There are driftwood Christmas Trees, nautical-inspired garlands, coastal-themed collectibles and more.

So, come on by this Sunday, December 4 from 11:00 – 4:00. And remember, the more the merrier!

Until next time…

Summer is in full swing and in addition to being hard at work on our namesake floral arrangements, we are also in the midst of working on the release of our new website .

It’s being designed to showcase a wide array of beautiful floral creations alongside pricing that should make online ordering even easier!

We’re super excited and can’t wait to unveil it intime for Fall!

With Mother’s Day just around the corner it’s the perfect time to give a shout out to our part-time driver and floral assistant Sarah. Not only will she ensure that those gorgeous flowers bring a smile to mom’s face, but she’s also studying diligently to become a third grade teacher. So, moms everywhere can rest assured that both their flowers and their little ones are in very good hands!

Why we think Sarah is super duper:

Sarah’s super efficient, super jr. designer, and super sweet!

What is your favorite flower and why?

Jasmine is a high contender because it smells irresistible!  But my favorite flower changes every time I see a new one.

You are presently working to get your teacher’s certification.  Any hilarious or favorite kid moments that you just have to share?

I am often surprised at how much I can learn from them.  One of the kindergarteners recently taught me the Chinese word for “apple”, “ping-guo”.

Full of surprises!

When you’re not working at the shop, going to school or studying where are we most likely to find you?

At home…doing something crafty.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG

03. 18. 11

While much of the country crosses their fingers in hopes that the last inevitable freeze of the season passes them by, we are blessed with year-round thawed topsoil and an abundance of warm sunny days.  It’s a gardener’s dream!

But who says your green thumb should get all the attention? Ensure your other digits feel equally treasured and treat them to one of our delightful handmade rings crafted from antique silverware.

Or if you are looking for something unique to dress up your garden, our silver garden markers made of vintage spoons are the perfect finishing touch.

But before you head out into the sun be sure to pop on by and pick up one of our adorable sun hats to protect you from the elements. Made of lightweight, handwoven raffia these fair trade hats are ultra stylish and conveniently bendable. So when you are done with your gardening, you can stuff them into your bag, grab a book and head to the nearest beach.

We were all ecstatic to hear that Dry Bar had decided to open up a flagship location in Newport Beach. After all it’s super cute, they serve snacks and you can get a blow out for just $35.

So, you can imagine our excitement when we were asked to provide custom florals for today’s grand opening at Fashion Island.

Here are just a few of the pieces that delightfully play off their inspiring grey and yellow palette.

With the Valentine’s Day rush upon us it seemed the perfect time to recognize our superstar Floral Assistant – Ashley – aka “super shop girl”.

Why we think Ashley is awesome:

She cleans our cooler faster than a speeding bullet and deftly manipulates her red swiss army knife to de-thorn roses in a single slice. After all she is Super Shop Girl.

You just received your Design & Shop Management certification from Golden West College. What are your floral aspirations?

I love to work with flowers and plants! I plan on continuing my education by taking more classes on modern floral designs, horticulture and landscaping. I’ve even started my own floral garden with flowers I can use as cut stems and flowers which are draught resistant and native to California. I one day wish to open my own shop, preferably as a co-owner.

Exquisite Learning Experience

What is your favorite flower and why?

My favorite flower is the Carnivorous Pitcher Plant, but I actually adore the Monstera Deliciosa leaf over any flower.

When you’re not working at the shop where are we most likely to find you?

I spend a lot of time at home painting, reading and gardening. I also try to spend time volunteering for the wetlands or for the Huntington Beach Tree Society. Going to concerts or relaxing on the beach are also some of my past-times.

We’re thrilled to announce that our very own Andrea Fitzpatrick was selected as the 2nd place winner in the Mayesh Wholesale Florist National Open House and Design Contest. After being selected as the top design among the Orange County submissions, Andrea advanced to the national level where her “Orchid Affair” was chosen by industry professionals, retail florists, and event designers across the United States.

Congrats Andrea! We’re blooming with pride!

We would like to thank our customers and the community for helping to make 2010 such a successful year. We had a wonderful holiday season and we look forward to what 2011 has in store. In celebration of the New Year we have compiled a list of floral-inspired resolutions that our little shop will do our best to keep!

1) Take some time each and every day to stop and smell our roses (or any other yummy smelling bloom).

2) Gift a local school employee with a beautiful bouquet the first week of every month.

3) Make a concerted effort to support organic, fair trade and local growers.

4) Bring fresh flowers to our loved ones just because.

5) Smile often because we get to work with flowers each and every day.

Until next time…

Why we think Merrett is rad:

Because he makes driving a mini van look cool.

So, you’re in a flower shop with all females. You’re either really brave or just plain crazy.  And we’ve heard on more than one occasion that the     ladies love you.  What’s your secret?

Being genuine.

Describe working at Corona del Mar Florist in three words or less.

“On the Road Again”.  I know it’s four . . .

When you’re not wooing the ladies while delivering flowers, where are we most likely to find you?

Right Rock -  Crystal Cove.

We heard you’re working two jobs to finance a pretty amazing trip.  Tell us about it.

Ya, I also work at El Matador a Mexican restaurant as a bus boy.  I get tips so I use them for daily spending, allowing me to save my paychecks to go towards my trip.  I’m planning on going on a surf trip to Australia for a month or longer.

Until next time…
